At Black Everywhere, we believe community should be for everyone. I'm personally committed to making sure our events, spaces, and resources are as accessible and welcoming as possible.

We provide accessible transcripts for videos, design our materials with accessibility in mind, and are always open to doing better. If you ever need support or have ideas for how we can improve, feel free to reach out to me directly at jamaica@blackeverywhere.org.

Measures to Support Accessibility

Black Everywhere takes the following measures to ensure accessibility:

  • Include accessibility throughout our internal policies.

  • Integrate accessibility into our procurement practices.

  • Assign clear accessibility goals and responsibilities.

  • Accessibility is a priority at Black Everywhere. The Executive Team personally manages all accessibility updates. We use built-in accessibility tools provided by our website platform to scan for and fix issues like color contrast, missing alt text, and keyboard navigation. Even as a small team, we are committed to following best practices based on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and updating the site regularly. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and community feedback is welcomed to help us continue improving.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. WCAG defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Black Everywhere is fully conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
Fully conformant means that the content fully meets the accessibility standard without exceptions.

Black Everywhere is designed to be compatible with:

  • Latest versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge, with assistive technologies such as VoiceOver (Mac), NVDA (Windows), or JAWS (Windows) on macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.

Black Everywhere is not compatible with:

  • Browsers older than 3 major versions or mobile operating systems older than 5 years.

Accessibility of Black Everywhere relies on the following technologies to work with browsers and assistive technologies:

  • HTML

  • WAI-ARIA

  • CSS

These technologies are relied upon to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.

Limitations and Alternatives

Despite best efforts to ensure accessibility, there may still be some limitations.
Known limitations for Black Everywhere:

  • The website is built on a platform that maintains ongoing accessibility updates. While Black Everywhere strives for full compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, some parts of the site may not yet meet all requirements. Improvements are ongoing.
