About the Event

Join Black Everywhere for an exciting and thought-provoking visit to The Time is Always Now: Artists Reframe the Black Figure exhibition at the world-renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art. This exhibition features over 60 contemporary works from 28 Black and African diasporic artists, showcasing the richness, complexity, and beauty of Black contemporary life. Through figurative painting, drawing, and sculpture, the artists explore themes of identity, history, and the celebration of Black culture.

Exhibit Highlights:

  • Theme 1: Double Consciousness – Inspired by W.E.B. Du Bois' theory, this section delves into concepts of Blackness, belonging, and the psychological experience of navigating multiple identities.

  • Theme 2: Past and Presence – This powerful section explores the absence of Black figures in mainstream narratives and how artists have creatively responded to this gap.

  • Theme 3: Our Aliveness – A vibrant celebration of Black assembly, gathering, and the joy of Black existence.
