Intro

Hello! I’m Queen, located in Long Beach, CA. I’ve been natural for 24 years, of which 13 1/2 were loc’d. I released my locs nearing the end of 2016 and have been going through trials and experimenting with hair styles. Also, I have developed traction alopecia and am now in peri (if you know, you know). So my hair is still a new zone that I navigate. I have plenty of it but of course am most bothered by what’s missing and/or thin. Always looking for someone who specializes in healthy hair/scalp, can style within my limitations and who’s professional. I have that back home (Midwest) but have yet to make a great connection in So Cal (even after being here over 15 years, smh).

I myself have the same issues. But I have embraced natural wigs. So I go to the salon to have them wash, condition, give me a treatment (sometimes a trim as well) and give me a wig braid down so my hair and scalp are nourished. I usually buy wigs from HerGivenHair and I style and use products in it like it’s my own.

My hair has gone through it but I'm still on the journey

Hey everyone 👋🏾 I wanted to introduce myself and my hair.

💁🏾‍♀️ I started my locs in the spring of 2005 right before studying abroad in Japan. Then, in 2022, I started experiencing alopecia. After my hair started growing back on it's own, I made the difficult decision to cut off my locs in the spring of 2023.

🌱 Since then, I've been slowly growing my hair back out. I don't know if I'll do locs again, but I'm doing my best to be grateful for the hair I have and to take care of it the best I can. Hoping to get inspired and informed by y'all in this group. 🙏🏾

Kid’s Hair Products

Hi there. I have a 4 (going on 40) year old daughter and am wondering if anyone has recommendations for kid’s hair products. I don’t usually blow dry her hair but the first picture was right before braids so I had to. Typically I just do Afro puffs because hair is not my talent and I don’t want to mess her hair up or curse her with traumatic school pictures lol. Also if anyone is in the Atlanta area and can recommend a stylist to take her to for the occasional trim and treatment I’d appreciate it. She actually sits really well through getting her hair done.

First, your daughter is beautiful 😍 I don't use products geared for children. I'm currently using the Aphogee products, and oils are your best friend ( jojoba, castor, peppermint). I also try to keep her hair braided.

These are both 4-day-old wash-n-gos...

But one is after one use of Joico Moisture Recovery Treatment Balm (deep conditioner).

So 3 weeks back I asked about yal favorite deep conditioners and I also went on Reddit (my favorite website for referrals) and this was the winner. I bought 2 bottles for $12.50 each at Marshalls. I've already used it two times and there's still some left in the first bottle.

Try it out. I've never seen my curls act so behaved than after using this deep conditioner.

Deep conditioning recs

I looked at an older picture of my hair and clearly I need deep conditioning. 💆🏽‍♀️🥹 What are your best recommendations that I can easily pick up from the store?

Hi, Bree here! One of my many favorite things about being a Black Woman is the versatility of our hair. Here’s a vid of the main hairstyles I had last year. We’ll see what I come up with this year 😅
