The Passport to Black Music is a free community event featuring live music performed at businesses in Downtown Long Beach. You can even get a free bike safety check during the event, thanks to our friends at Pedal Movement!

Our stellar lineup of performers includes:

 

  • Amadou Fall, a master kora player, known for performing for the Black Panther movie and an accompanying djembe drummer

  • JaszyLady, a captivating jazz and R&B soloist

  • Kiva Siana (fka Sheila Starr), an intoxicating sensual movement artist and performer at Harvelle's in Long Beach, will be leading a workshop on a timeline of black dance history

  • Queen Yaa of Soul Cypher - Soul Cypher is a beloved creative collective and hospitality-driven marketing agency promoting local artists

  • Dawn Koyote, a versatile genrefluid artist, curator, educator, and entrepreneur from Long Beach

"Passport to Black Music" is a part of the PD 6 + PD 30 project, demonstrating the City of Long Beach's commitment to comprehensive and inclusive planning. Extensive community outreach and public participation will guide this inclusive planning process, offering various online and in-person opportunities for community members and stakeholders to engage.  Attendees will have the valuable opportunity to provide planning feedback during the event.
